SteamID formats explained

What is a SteamID64?

A SteamID64 is the 64-bit number Steam uses for every account: 17 digits starting with 7656119, for example 76561197960287930. It appears in profile links (steamcommunity.com/profiles/<steamid64>), the Steam Web API, trade offers and most third-party sites. For individual accounts it equals 76561197960265728 plus the account id, so the hex form always starts with 1100001.

STEAM_0 and STEAM_1

The classic text form is STEAM_X:Y:Z: X is the universe (0 in older Source games and SourceMod ban lists, 1 in current games), Y is the lowest bit of the account id and Z is the account id divided by two. STEAM_0:0:11101 and STEAM_1:0:11101 are the same account; server consoles, admin plugins and the status command print one of them.

SteamID3 and account ID

SteamID3 is [U:1:<account id>], the form CS2, CS:GO and other Source 2 games use in logs and status output. The account id itself (22202 in the example) is the 32-bit number every other format is built from.

Conversion
Numeric formats are converted instantly without touching Steam; vanity names and /id/ links are resolved through Steam once and cached
Result address
One page per account: /lookup/<steamid64>. Any other identifier in the address redirects there, so links stay stable

How to find your Steam ID

1. Open your profile
In the Steam client click your name at the top and choose View Profile; in a browser open steamcommunity.com and click your avatar
2. Copy the address
Right-click the page and choose Copy Page URL, or turn on the address bar in Settings → Interface. The link looks like steamcommunity.com/profiles/7656... or steamcommunity.com/id/yourname
3. Paste it above
A /profiles/ link already contains your SteamID64; a /id/ link is a custom URL and is resolved through Steam. The result page lists every format with a Copy button

FAQ

Is the lookup free and private?

Yes. No accounts, no cookies, no tracking; only public Steam data is shown and nothing you enter is stored.

Can I look up a private profile?

The ids always convert, because they are mathematics. For a private profile Steam returns the name and avatar but hides the creation date, country and status, so those rows are empty.

Why did my link turn into a number?

Every account has exactly one result address, /lookup/<steamid64>. A vanity name can be changed by its owner, the SteamID64 never changes, so links stay valid.

What is the difference between a Steam ID and a Steam name?

The name (persona) and the custom URL can be edited and reused by other people. The Steam ID is assigned once and identifies the account forever, which is why bans, friends lists and APIs use it.
